Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed the New York State attorney general to investigate allegations by a former Cornell University student that several men sexually assaulted her.
Documents obtained by The New York Times show that the campus police at Cornell University sent a condensed statement to a prosecutor, who then declined to bring charges.
The Cornell Police Department summarized hours of interviews with a woman who said she was raped into a six-page document that excluded key details. A local prosecutor did not pursue criminal charges based on that document.
District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said a womanβs report to the police in 2024 saying she had been raped at a fraternity did not support a criminal case. But he said he was now reaching out to her.
