Ending routine vaccination for hepatitis B at birth, as the health secretary has recommended, would increase the number of chronic infections by as much as 83 percent, a team of researchers reported.
Last December, a panel of advisers chosen by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recommended that parents should decide whether or when infants should get the shot if they were born to mothers who test negative for hepatitis B.
