Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed the state attorney general to investigate a former Cornell University studentβs allegation of rape. The woman has sued seven men in connection with the alleged assault.
Documents obtained by The New York Times show that the campus police at Cornell University sent a condensed statement to a prosecutor, who then declined to bring charges.
The Cornell Police Department summarized hours of interviews with a woman who said she was raped into a six-page document that excluded key details. A local prosecutor did not pursue criminal charges based on that document.
District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said a womanβs report to the police in 2024 saying she had been raped at a fraternity did not support a criminal case. But he said he was now reaching out to her.
