President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine meeting with President Trump at the United Nations in September. Mr. Trump has blown hot and at times very cold on Kyiv.
President Trump said the deal “might involve all of Europe.” He indicated he had met with a Kremlin envoy whom Melania Trump hosted at the White House on Thursday.
Both Moscow and Kyiv say Mrs. Trump’s team was the driving force behind an evacuation of a besieged city. It was also in their interest to deliver her a humanitarian win.
After its sometime allies were ousted in elections in Hungary and Serbia, Moscow has seized on Poland’s constitutional standoff in its effort to weaken Europe’s support for Ukraine.
Notching wins from Washington, the Russian leader is talking with foreign leaders and could return to diplomatic center stage with possible summit meetings.
