AI is the new dating dealbreaker

a hand holding a phone open to a dating app with a robot as the profile picture

When Irene moved to San Francisco last year, she started using dating apps as a way to meet new people, get to know her new city, and connect with others who care about the things she does. After the 25-year-old analyst downloaded Hinge and started swiping, she noticed a trend.

"Hinge has a prompt where you can say, 'We'll get along if''," she recalls. "Sometimes people will be like, 'Fuck AI.'"

Usually, the people who include this kind of value statement on their profile work in the arts, nursing, maybe graphic design. Within the span of a few minutes of sitting down and swiping, Irene shows me a second profile where this happened once mo …

That "toolbox" includes making the code for devices like the recently teased MPC Sample Key open source, but also offering developers an SDK to make modifications easier and lessen the risk of bricking your beloved sampler.

While Akai is eager to see what the modding community cooks up, and has started s …

A still showing the fictional Korean girl group HUNTR/X.

Buying the 4K Blu-ray disc version of KPop Demon Hunters was already going to be a wise idea for some people, especially those who primarily keep their $26.99 Netflix Premium subscription just to watch the hit animated flick in 4K. But at just $24.99 from Barnes and Noble and Amazon instead of its original $49.95 price, it’s easier than ever to recommend.

KPop Demon Hunters (4K Blu-ray)

Where to Buy:

The Criterion Collection version of the film recently launched, and comes with a bunch of extras in a gorgeous set. In addition to the 4K digital master, complete with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos sound, you also get two standard 1080p Blu-rays, one containing the film, and the other packed with special features (a full feature-length animatic, a making-of documentary, lyric videos, and more). It includes physical goodies, too, like collectible postcards, as well as an essay by Polygon alum Karen Han.

Kpop Demon Hunters was on my list of physical movies to buy, and this deal just turned it into a must-buy ahead of the holiday season.

Update, 4:50PM ET, November 6th: Previously, this deal was available for in-store pickup at Barnes and Noble, but it’s currently available online at both Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

Spotify is coming to United Airlines seatbacks — with help from Starlink

Spotify on a seatback screen on an airplane

United has built a custom, native Spotify app for seatback displays, allowing passengers to log directly in to their personal accounts and stream their own libraries, playlists, and video podcasts while flying 35,000 feet in the air. The new integration is being powered by Starlink's satellite Wi-Fi, which is currently being installed throughout United's entire fleet.

The news marks a major shift in legacy in-flight entertainment. Gone are the days of stethoscope-style plastic tubes, armrest dials, and canned playlists. These older airplane systems were built on the assumption that flights had no internet, so all movies and music had to be …

Nintendo’s designers strove for ‘elegance’ when remaking Ocarina of Time

A screenshot from the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in which Link, a small elf-like boy in a green tunic, is holding a sword about as tall as he is.

The Ocarina of Time remake on the Switch 2 smashes together the past and present. The game retains much of the original N64 experience while updating it with modern graphics and gameplay that make it feel contemporary. But the mingling of time periods also extends to the development team. While Ocarina's remake was led by producers Eiji Aonuma (a director on the original game who is now the franchise's steward at Nintendo) and Hidemaro Fujibayashi (best known for directing Breath of the Wild and its sequel), the team also featured a number of younger developers, including some who had never played the original. According to Fujibayashi, thos …

Rian Johnson explains why he had to build his own iPhone camera app

Rian Johnson.

Rian Johnson is an analog photography devotee. The director of Knives Out and The Last Jedi can often be spotted on set with a Leica M6 at his side, documenting production on film. But sometimes, it's still easier to reach for a phone. So Johnson started wondering if the photos from his iPhone could be made to look more like the grade he applies to his movies.

The result is Chromagraph Camera, a $13 iOS app that bypasses elements of Apple's image processing pipeline and applies the same look used on Johnson's movies. The app, made by Johnson and his longtime cinematographer, Steve Yedlin, is shockingly simple, with just a few primary settin …

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time never gets old

A screenshot from the video game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Breath of the Wild changed everything. Two decades after The Legend of Zelda made the transformational shift to 3D, Breath of the Wild reinvigorated the franchise with an open-ended adventure that was built around player freedom and expression. Instead of following a set path, players could go wherever they wanted and tackle challenges in a variety of ways. That philosophy filtered down to subsequent games, letting players author their own creative solutions to puzzles in titles like Tears of the Kingdom and Echoes of Wisdom. As a result, Zelda has never been bigger, and the traditional, more linear Zelda games had become a thing of the past …

All the news about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake

Ahead of the release of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI, Nintendo is launching its own fall juggernaut: a Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

The remake, which is releasing 28 years after the launch of the original version on Nintendo 64, has a much more realistic visual style and some modern improvements like a jump button, a way to sprint, full voice acting, and a “Threads of Time” feature that helps you keep track of your progress. But while the game has a new coat of paint, it appears many elements will still remain faithful to the classic N64 release. Nintendo has also launched a special version of the Switch 2 and Switch 2 Pro Controller with Triforce imagery to celebrate the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is scheduled to release on November 5th. You can follow along with all of our coverage of the game right here.

A screenshot from Food Devils, which is missing its planned launch today.

Many indie game developers have recently posted on social media about unexpectedly long approval wait times for their game submissions on Steam, with some of the approvals causing developers to miss their planned launch dates.

For example, Studio Daimon, the team behind an upcoming title called Food Devils, had planned to launch the game in early access today after submitting its build on October 12th. But the game is "still awaiting approval," according to a post from game director Alfred Kamon. "Even now, we don't know when Steam will give us the final OK to finally release our game.
