A host of African leaders including the presidents of Ghana, Liberia, Kenya and Namibia demanded the change while the U.N. Secretary General said the lack of a permanent African seat was “indefensible.”
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of Liberia lobbied for African representation on the U.N. Security Council, whose mandates, he pointed out, mostly concerned Africa’s peace.
