Command-line tool quickly removes Apple Intelligence from macOS 27

5 October 2026 at 19:14

A new tool is allowing Mac users the ability again to easily turn off Apple Intelligence with one click and free up to 12GB of storage.

Unlike with previous versions of macOS, macOS 27 Golden Gate doesn’t have a toggle for turning off Apple Intelligence. That makes disabling AI features that you may not want more difficult. It also means that the AI models necessary for running Apple Intelligence will take up space on your disk, even if you don’t use them or if you go through your settings to individually find and disable AI capabilities.

In response, a developer known as Om Lahore on GitHub last week created RemoveMacAI, a command-line tool that allows macOS 27 users to β€œturn off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27" in a way that is β€œfully reversible,” per the GitHub page. They said that Apple's Intelligence models take up "about 12GB," but the models can actually take up over 30GB, The Verge noted.

An open-source tool lets you delete 12GB of Apple Intelligence data on macOS

Getting some extra storage space on your Mac could be as easy as deleting Apple's AI features with a new open-source command line tool called RemoveMacAI. There used to be a single Settings toggle for disabling Apple Intelligence, but that was removed in macOS 27. Now, the models stay on your disk, and the features are split up across different settings panes.

As spotted earlier by MacRumors, the RemoveMacAI developer said in a post on Reddit that the tool essentially does what the old settings toggle did, deleting the models and turning the features off:

You have to find about a dozen settings, and several of them are under Screen Time. …

Apple will limit Mac disk access as AI agents β€˜substantially’ increase risk

By: Emma Roth

Apple will add new limits for "full disk access" on Mac in response to risks posed by AI agents, as reported earlier by TechCrunch. In an update on Friday, Apple says it's rolling out new controls to "ensure that users who genuinely wish to grant an app this extraordinary level of access can only do so with very explicit user action."

The change comes just weeks after Inc's Jason Aten found that Meta's Muse AI somehow knew the contents of his messages, despite not giving the chatbot explicit permission to access them on his iPhone or Mac. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone pushed back on this report, saying access to Messages is "entirely opt-in. …

The Mac Mini is still mighty, just not as cheap

Apple’s little computer gets a little spendy.

There are lots of compact desktop computers out there, but none match the Mac Mini's small size and big power. 2024's redesign reduced the Mini to 0.82L, a chassis so minimal you can easily mount it behind a monitor or under a desk. I've used gaming laptop charging bricks that are nearly as large and definitely heavier than this whole computer. But despite being tiny, the Mini maintains a bunch of speedy ports - even a front-facing headphone jack.

The 2026 Mini is the first Mac to get Apple's new M6 chip, with more cores - and more kinds of cores - than the outgoing M4 model. Along with that comes another beefier version, replacing the M4 …
