Prime Video looks to have another hit on its hands with Neagley, a new spinoff series set in the same universe as the streaming platform’s critically acclaimed Reacher, now in its fourth season. Both shows are solidly addictive escapist fare, and while Neagley has some uneven elements, it mostly sticks to the successful formula while exploring new ground to give a very different main character her due.

(Some spoilers below, but no major reveals.)

Reacher fans will already be familiar with Frances Neagley, played to perfection by Maria Sten (Swamp Thing). She’s arguably the most diehard friend of former US Army military police officer turned drifter Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson), coming to his aid again and again as he confronts a bevy of dangerous criminals over four hugely entertaining seasons. (Of course Ritchson’s Reacher makes an appearance in an opening scene, lending his muscle to rescue a kidnapped child.)

Apple is paying $250 million to settle claims that it failed to deliver an AI-upgraded Siri - and now, eligible iPhone owners can submit a claim for a payout. If you live in the US and purchased an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model between June 10th, 2024, and March 29th, 2025, you can file a claim on the settlement's website, as reported earlier by MacRumors.

Google and partners are finally announcing the first laptops under the new Googlebook banner. There are five models from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to kick things off. They're available for preorder starting today and arrive in stores on October 4th.

Starting prices range from $899 to $1,299, putting the Googlebooks in the same territory as the MacBook Air and a plethora of Windows laptops. Each Googlebook also comes with 12 months of Google AI Pro with 5TB of cloud storage, along with three-month trials of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, and CapCut. Google's also promising up to 10 years of updates.

The new Mac mini is the kind of Mac upgrade Apple has done a million times. It’s the same design as before but with new guts.

These play-it-safe updates aren’t very exciting, but they’re also usually all upside—you get a year or two's worth of technological improvements for the same price you would have paid for the older version yesterday. Unfortunately, 2026's unprecedented memory crunch has upended that standard operating procedure.

The new Mac mini starts at $899 for a version with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, a $300 increase for the same memory and storage specs you could get in the $599 M4 Mac mini in 2024.

Google is ready to take a swing at laptops... again. The company has had a lot of success in phones, but it has struggled to parlay that into an effective strategy for larger screens. Chromebooks have been fine as a budget option, but it seems like Google has accepted they'll never compete with macOS or Windows. That's where Googlebooks come in. These new Android-powered laptops are intended to be "real" computers, featuring premium hardware, on-device apps, and powerful development tools.

After the Googlebook reveal at I/O this year, Google's partners are now ready to sell you one. The first Googlebooks are available from several OEMs that have been making Chromebooks over the years, but don't expect Chromebook pricing. There's only one model under a grand, and the rest are well above that.

Familiar hardware

The bulk of Chromebooks have been budget machines, and they looked the part. Googlebooks, however, feature bright OLED screens, metal builds, big haptic trackpads, and the Glowbar. All the machines have this illuminated bar on the lid, but it doesn't do much for now. It lights up when the device boots and can display battery level, but Google says it's going to release an API for developers to add more features.

There are a few things about using a Googlebook that immediately feel just right. The hardware is polished (since it's based on current laptops). The OS is familiar (if you've ever used a Chromebook). But most impressive, it integrates your Android phone with your PC so they feel more like one device. There are lots of compact desktop computers out there, but none match the Mac Mini's small size and big power. 2024's redesign reduced the Mini to 0.82L, a chassis so minimal you can easily mount it behind a monitor or under a desk. I've used gaming laptop charging bricks that are nearly as large and definitely heavier than this whole computer. The Mac Studio review unit that Apple sent us to test this year is, put simply, kind of outrageous. It has an M5 Ultra chip with a 36-core CPU and 80-core GPU, 256GB of RAM, and 4TB of storage and costs $12,299. This thing is not for your typical content creation workloads. There's a good chance that my next laptop will be a Googlebook. If you're an Android user like me, then yours might be too, because Google is making a compelling pitch: The Googlebook does for the Android phone what the MacBook does for the iPhone (and then some).

John Maletis, Google's head of laptops and tablets, said at my press briefing that the Googlebooks were designed to "work seamlessly with your Android phone." You can start using an app on your phone then pick it up on the laptop, navigate your phone's files from the laptop, run any phone app from the computer, and manage all your notifications in one place.

I disabled Siri in the Settings app, and then further disabled Siri and its extensions in Settings > Screen Time.

Next, I disabled all Siri-related and Apple Intelligence-related services as per https://github.com/OleksandrKrupko/mac-os-debloat

But after restarting, I could still see a "Siri" process running in Activity Monitor. Upon further inspection, I found that it is the "Siri AI.app".

These "features", together with Apple's Personal Context sound very similar to Microsoft's Recall.

Does anyone have the same experience? Is it really impossible to fully turn off Siri, Siri AI, Apple Intelligence and all related services and features on macOS 27?
